Dr. Brenda Agnew has been selected as Round Rock ISD’s first-ever Director of Equity and Planning. The newly created position will serve under the Chief Equity Officer and is aimed at supporting the identification of equity issues in the District and the development and implementation of improvement strategies at campuses and facilities.

Dr. Agnew most recently served as the principal of Walsh Middle School since 2016 and has over 30 years of experience in education. During her time at the campus, she implemented the creation of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion team to lead the review of policies and develop strategies to improve inclusivity within the community and supported the District’s Leadership Coaching Program, designed to provide coaching to District administrators on essential issues. Walsh has consistently been ranked as one of the top performers in Central Texas by the Children at Risk program, which aims to promote success for all students through performance data analysis and is based on achievement, performance and growth indicators, and college readiness data.

Before Walsh, Dr. Agnew was a principal in Hays CISD and held administrative positions at McNeil High School and Canyon Vista Middle School. She also has six years of experience as a classroom teacher.

“It is humbling and exciting to be named the District’s first Director of Equity and Planning,” Dr. Agnew said. “Our campuses and community are diverse, and each student has their own needs that must be met to facilitate success. In this role, I look forward to working to ensure that we continue to improve programs to promote inclusivity and compassion for all students and families.”

Dr. Agnew earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from Concordia University and continued her education at Texas State University, where she earned a Master’s of Education and Ph.D. in School Improvement.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Brenda Agnew to the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as our Director of Equity and Planning,” Chief Equity Officer DeWayne Street said. “Dr. Agnew possesses the right balance of leadership skills, professional insight, and experience with advanced equity, diversity, and inclusion issues needed to be effective and successful in this important role. She also brings extensive organizational knowledge and respect for diversity of thought, along with a proven data-driven practice. With crucial work ahead of us, we look forward to working with her to improve practices across our District to support equity and success for all students.”
