The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees selected Redbud Elementary School as the name for Elementary 35 at its regular meeting on Thursday.

The campus name is inspired by the environment around the school, which is adjacent to Old Settlers Park, and its design. A focal point of the school’s design is a giant tree near the entrance and library, and the park is home to an orchard of redbud trees that serves as a memorial to beloved community members who have passed away.

Prior to selecting the name, the Board of Trustees heard a presentation by the campus naming committee that included three potential names for consideration during the Board’s regular March meeting. The committee, composed of seven citizens, each selected by one of the seven Board members, one Board member appointed by the Board President, and one District administrator appointed by the Acting Superintendent of Schools, met in February and March to review community feedback and narrow down potential recommendations.

Redbud Elementary School will open in the Fall of 2021 and is located in the northeast section of Round Rock ISD at 1500 Ty Cobb Place. The school was approved by voters in the 2018 Bond to provide space for the growing student population and relieve overcrowding at Herrington Elementary School.
