Larissa Ortiz has been named the new principal of Caraway Elementary School.

Ortiz has served as the assistant principal of Hernandez Middle School since 2019 and, during that time, led initiatives to increase student achievement, support the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and facilitate campus culture and equity. Before serving as an administrator at Hernandez, she was an assistant principal at Round Rock High School and Cedar Valley Middle School. She has a total of 17 years of experience in education, 10 of those years as a classroom teacher.

She is also a graduate of the District’s Team One Program, designed to provide aspiring principals with professional development relevant to the principal role.

“I am excited to embark on this journey with the students, staff, and families of the Caraway community,” Ortiz said. “Together, we will ensure that the academic and social-emotional needs of our students remain at the center of the work that we do.”

Ortiz earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership and Bachelors in English and Spanish from Texas State University.
