Acting Superintendent Dr. Daniel Presley and Board of Trustees President Amy Weir joined districts across Texas and organizations including the Texas Association of School Administrators, the Texas Association of School Boards and the Texas School Alliance in asking Gov. Greg Abbott to include school personnel as frontline workers and include them in the next tier of priority individuals to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in a letter sent this week.
The letter reads:

Re: Educators as a priority group for COVID-19 vaccines
Dear Governor Abbott,
As leaders of the Round Rock Independent School District, we are greatly appreciative of your commitment to protect Texans during the COVID-19 pandemic and for your concern for the educational, social and emotional well-being of the more than five million students enrolled in Texas public schools, including the more than 50,000 students and 7,000 employees of Round Rock ISD.
As we watch with great hope and anticipation the distribution of the first COVID-19 vaccines, we are respectfully requesting that Texas teachers and school personnel be considered as a priority group in the vaccination process. The front line medical workers and older Texans in residential facilities certainly are the first priority, but if doses are available for Texas teachers in the initial group or in the second phase it would be a great asset in keeping the teachers in Texas schools actively engaged in teaching for the coming months.
We appreciate your efforts and the work of your task force and medical advisors. We are committed to continue working diligently to provide quality instruction for students in this difficult time. Thank you again for your leadership in this unprecedented health crisis.

Distrito Escolar Independiente de Round Rock ISD pide al gobernador que dé prioridad al personal escolar para recibir vacunas
El superintendente interino Dr. Daniel Presley y la presidenta del Junta Escolar Amy Weir se unieron a los distritos de Texas y a organizaciones como la Asociación de Administradores Escolares de Texas, la Asociación de Juntas Escolares de Texas y la Alianza Escolar de Texas para pedirle al gobernador Greg Abbott que incluyera al personal escolar como primera línea trabajadores e incluirlos en el siguiente nivel de personas prioritarias para recibir la vacuna contra COVID-19 en una carta enviada esta semana.

Como líderes del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Round Rock, agradecemos enormemente su compromiso de proteger a los tejanos durante la pandemia de COVID-19 y su preocupación por el bienestar educativo, social y emocional de los más de cinco millones de estudiantes matriculados en escuelas públicas en Texas, incluidos los más de 50,000 estudiantes y 7,000 empleados de Round Rock ISD.
Mientras observamos con gran esperanza y anticipación la distribución de las primeras vacunas contra COVID-19, solicitamos respetuosamente que los maestros y el personal escolar de Texas sean considerados un grupo prioritario en el proceso de vacunación.
