Round Rock ISD Superintendent of Schools Steve Flores, Ph.D. has named Ramiro Flores to serve as Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The appointment comes following current CFO Randy Staats’ announcement that he is leaving the District to serve as CFO for the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority.
“If you are very lucky, there are moments in your career when you find yourself surrounded by an amazing group of colleagues—individuals who are at the top of their game professionally and also happen to be truly spectacular people. I have been blessed in Round Rock ISD to have an executive leadership team made up of just those types of colleagues,” Flores said. “Randy Staats, who has served this District for 20 years, is definitely one of those people for me. We will miss him, his steady leadership, and his incredible financial acumen, greatly, but we wish him well in this new professional adventure that has the added bonus of bringing him closer to family.”
Staats has served in his current position since 2014 and previously served as Executive Director of Business Services, among other roles. He will stay on to see the District through the budget adoption scheduled for June 21 and will work to ensure a smooth transition as Ramiro Flores comes on board in July.
Ramiro Flores retired from Round Rock ISD in 2015 after serving as Deputy Superintendent of Business Services and Chief Operating Officer. It was under Ramiro Flores that Round Rock ISD earned its first AAA rating from Moody’s and later added an AAA rating from Fitch under Staats’ leadership. Round Rock ISD is the only District in Texas to earn an AAA rating from both agencies. AAA is the highest bond rating possible which demonstrates the manner in which the district carries out its fiscal responsibilities.
Ramiro Flores has decades of experience in school finance and operations in Texas and was a key leader during the successful 2014 Bond process. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in Education from The University of Texas-Pan American.
