Two remarkable teachers at Round Rock ISD’s Westwood High School earned prestigious distinctions at this year’s Texas Foreign Language Association’s Fall Conference, taking home titles for both Spanish and German Teachers of the Year as well as overall Texas Foreign Language Teacher of Year.
Milybett Llanos-Gremillion was honored as Spanish Texas Teacher of the Year and Jennifer Melgar was named both German Teacher of the Year and TFLA Teacher of the Year. Melgar will go on to represent Texas as a candidate for the Southwest Conference of Language Teaching Regional Teacher of the Year, which will be announced in the Spring. No other single high school or school district earned as many distinctions.
Candidates for the statewide awards are selected through a rigorous nomination and interview process that considers factors such as evidence of outstanding teaching, involvement in campus and language activities, professional contributions, curriculum development and teaching experience.
“We are fortunate to have both MilyBett and Jennifer serve the Westwood community and bring their phenomenal talents into their classrooms each day,” Principal Mario Acosta said. “I feel privileged to work with such talented educators who continuously learn about the newest methodology in world language instruction and Westwood is honored to have Jennifer leading Texas in world language education.”
