The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees honored Trustee Paul Tisch’s four years of service to the District and reviewed an accountability and CTE master plan update at its June 15 regular Board meeting.
Board receives spring STAAR results and accountability update
The Board of Trustees reviewed the district level STAAR results for students who tested this spring. The Board also received a summary of changes to the school accountability system that resulted from legislative changes this session. These changes include the removal of two domains of the five domains that were part of the original design of the A-F rating system.
Campuses and districts now will receive A-F ratings in student student achievement, school progress and closing performance gaps, and an overall rating of A-F.
Board receives CTE Master Plan update
The Board was presented with an update of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Master Plan, which provided an overview of current CTE programs, enrollment and goals. District data showed that Round Rock ISD consistently has a higher percentage of students enrolled in CTE courses than at the state level. Also discussed was the dip in enrollment the District saw in CTE courses during the recent school year which can be attributed to a change in state graduation requirements.
Along with the review of programs and progress, recommendations were also presented for future consideration to address growing needs within CTE programs. Recommendations included addressing changing industry trends, developing a middle school college and career readiness course and reviewing budget allocations for high need courses.
Trustee Tisch honored at final meeting
The Board honored Trustee Paul Tisch and accepted his resignation. Tisch, who serves in Place 6, is serving his second term on the Board, which expires in November 2018. During his service, he has been in leadership roles, on committees and served as the Board President. He also served on the Board during the opening of its first elementary Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Academy at Joe Lee Johnson Elementary.
