Round Rock ISD Trustee Paul J. Tisch announced his plans to resign from the Board of Trustees after serving since 2013.
“I am proud to have served the students, staff and Round Rock ISD community and work with such an outstanding group of individuals as a Trustee,” Tisch said. “This community has meant the world to me, my children and my entire family. While I am saddened to exit my role as a Trustee and leave Round Rock, I am excited for this once in a lifetime career opportunity in College Station that will bring my family together each night.”
Tisch takes great pride in the District’s focus on world-class fine arts programs, he said. He is proud to have served on the Board during the opening of its first elementary Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Academy at Joe Lee Johnson Elementary.
“Time and time again, we saw this community come together to meet the needs of all kids,” Tisch said. “Our teachers, parents, and neighbors have a reputation for being caring and committed to the success of this District. That tradition makes this a special place.”
Tisch had been commuting across the state as part of his job, leaving him away from his family, he said. This new opportunity will allow him to spend more time with his wife, son, and two daughters. Because he will need to start his new position soon, Tisch will miss graduation ceremonies next week to spend time with his family.
Before his appointment to the Board of Trustees, Tisch was a member of the Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District Board of Directors and served as its president from 2007-2009. Tisch served as president of the Emergency Services District #2 Board of Commissioners from 2011-2012, and president of the Cat Hollow Homeowners Association from 2004-2006.
“Trustee Tisch has been an advocate for all students in our District and an asset in helping guide our development as the Destination District for Public Schools,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “The Tisch family truly represents Round Rock ISD with kids throughout our system, including a Round Rock High School graduate, who currently attends school at Texas A&M. He continuously displayed his passion, and I am grateful for his service to our students, staff, parents, and this community.”
Tisch, who serves in Place 6, is serving his second term on the Board, which expires in November 2018. During his service, he has been in leadership roles, on committees and served as the Board President. He will soon present his official letter of resignation to the Board of Trustees. He notified the Board President and Superintendent Thursday evening.
The Board plans to have an action item regarding Tisch’s resignation and a discussion item regarding filling the vacancy at the June 15 regular meeting, Board President Diane Cox said.
“We are excited for Trustee Tisch’s new career opportunity and grateful for his service to Round Rock ISD,” Cox said. “We will continue to work together as a Board to serve our students and community. We wish Paul and his family the best in this new chapter of their lives.”
