The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees received the Bond Oversight Committee and construction reports, heard celebrations regarding athletics and enrichment and approved a mandatory school meal price increase at its May 18 regular Board Meeting.

Board receives Bond Oversight Committee, construction report
The Board of Trustees received reports from the Bond Oversight Committee as part of the monthly construction report. Bond 2014 projects at Westwood, McNeil, Round Rock, Cedar Ridge and Stony Point high schools and Pearson Ranch Middle School were covered in the report. All projects are on schedule and will be ready for the 2017-18 school year. The report also included the Stony Point Fine Arts Auditorium, which is scheduled to start in June and finish in July 2018.

Board hears annual athletics, enrichment update
The Board of Trustees heard annual athletics reports and enrichment reports with statistics and other information regarding students participation in sports and academic activities. District data showed student-athletes performed better academically and socially than the general student population. Three Districtwide programs successfully expanded exposure to enrichment programs, including the Enrichment Program Potpourri, the Summer Enrichment Fair and STEM Fest. The District has also utilized partnerships to support enrichment for students as part of the summer bridging program, STEM Scouts, Run Free Texas and the Dell Junior Botball coding classes. Enrichment organization expansions also occurred this year, including in Destination Imagination, Math Pentathlon and the upcoming Pathways to Coding: A Girls’ Summer Program.

Board approves mandatory school meal price increase
The Board of Trustees approved federally mandated increases of $0.10 to school meals as a result of The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. The law mandates that school meal programs match average costs with the federal reimbursement rate, which the Texas Department of Agriculture set at $2.85. The current District average rate is $2.72. The law allows districts to incrementally increase rates over a number of years.

The new prices are:
Elementary paid breakfast: $1.35,
Elementary paid lunch: $2.70,
Secondary paid breakfast: $1.35,
Secondary paid lunch: $2.95
All reduced breakfast: $0.30,
All reduced lunch: $0.40,
Adult breakfast: $2.25 and
Adult lunch: $3.60.
