McNeil High School journalism teacher Theresa Proctor has been chosen by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) to receive the Edith Fox King Award from the Interscholastic League Press Conference.

“We are fortunate to have Theresa working with our literary Mavericks,” McNeil Principal Courtney Acosta said. “She does a great job of teaching them not only how to be journalists, but how to be professionals in the world of news and reporting.”

Proctor was recognized for her fellowship and outstanding devotion to scholastic journalism education in Texas. Recipients of the award can only be nominated by past award recipients and must have more than ten years serving in scholastic journalism.

“It’s a true honor to be recognized by my peers and the UIL,” Proctor said. “I’m humbled by the regard for my contributions as an educator in the field of publishing.”

The award will be presented to Proctor on April 22 at the association’s annual awards dinner.

Proctor has been a teacher at McNeil for 17 years. She teaches journalism, photography and oversees the production of the student online newspaper and yearbook.
