Round Rock ISD hosted over 600 girls and their family members at Round Rock High School in March as they chose from over 1,500 dresses for prom.
The District partnered with the Write to Me Foundation, founded by Gigi Edwards Bryant in 2004, to host the annual event, which provides a rite of passage experience to students who needed assistance in acquiring prom attire and services. PROMRack is the signature event for the Write To Me Foundation and was made possible by donations from Central Texas businesses and organizations.
Community Partnership Supervisor Rachael Brunson said she was delighted the Write to Me Foundation chose Round Rock High School as the host site for PROMRack.
“PROMRack has provided many of our students with the opportunity to alleviate the financial obligations that are associated with prom,” Brunson said. “Our student’s social and emotional well-being is equally as meaningful as their academic success.”
PROMRack provided dresses, gift bags, makeup artists, hair stylists, shoes, jewelry, minor alterations and a personal shopper free of charge to each girl on a first-come basis. This is the 13th year for PROMRack. The one-day event, which is prepared for year around by gathering donations, partnerships, sponsorships, a location and volunteers is solely focused on the student experience.
Bryant said it takes a whole community to make the event happen.
“Westbank Dry Cleaning joined PromRack in the beginning and gave us a place to call home,” Bryant said. “Entercom Austin joined us two years ago, and together, these civic-minded companies amplified our ability to reach the Central Texas community and grow the event. With the full involvement of their companies resources, employees and services, PROMRack continues to thrive. I am so grateful and blessed to live in a community where caring for our children is everyone’s passion.”
