McNeil High School junior Sarah Lee has been elected to serve as next year’s president of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Texas chapter. Lee is a student of McNeil’s Health Sciences Academy and a campus HOSA club officer.
Becoming an area officer has been a goal of Lee’s since freshman year. Originally Lee applied for the position of vice president of the Texas chapter. However while interviewing with the nominating committee, the HOSA area officers felt chapter president was a role better suited for her. At the conclusion of the annual leadership conference, each HOSA chapter delegate voted, and Lee was elected president.
As area president Lee’s duties include organizing the Fall and Spring Leadership conferences, leading the area officer team, and fulfilling HOSA’s mission to provide opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development to all health science education students at 130 Texas schools.
“Sarah is super motivated, her excellent leadership and communication skills will positively impact her team and Texas Area One HOSA students,” said Naomi Hart-Sobkowiak, RN and McNeil Health Sciences Instructor.
During her time as president Lee hopes to organize more events, raise awareness for diseases and disabilities all over the world, create more unity and enhance communication between HOSA chapters.
“The last area officer team did such a fabulous job I hope I can surpass their efforts,” said Lee.
Lee is interested in becoming an anesthesiologist and attending the University of Texas at Austin. In her spare time, Lee spends time with friends and listening to music.
“Ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted to be a Longhorn, Hook ‘em!” said Lee. “After that, being able to help people as a health care professional will be inspiring, rewarding, and fulfilling.”
