Cedar Ridge High School Coach Sam Robinson has been named the head football coach for the campus.

Robinson has more than 10 years of coaching experience and has served Cedar Ridge since April 2016 as defensive coordinator and head boys track coach. Robinson previously coached Round Rock ISD students at Stony Point High School before working at Cedar Ridge. He has also served as a coach in Eastland ISD, Slaton ISD, Royse City ISD, Levelland ISD and Hereford ISD.

“Coach Robinson is a key component of a positive culture that has culminated in the Cedar Ridge athletics program,” said Dwayne Weirich, Round Rock ISD athletic director. “He puts kids first and is an extremely hard working role model. I’m excited to know the traditions and culture that has been established at Cedar Ridge will continue.”

Robinson is a graduate of Angelo State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in kinesiology with a minor in mathematics. Along with coaching, he has also taught a variety of math and leadership classes.

“Coach Robinson has a great relationship with our students and the other coaches,” Cedar Ridge Principal Lynette Thomas said. “We feel like he’s the best person to take our kids forward. We just feel like a family with him.”

Robinson replaces Shawn Bell who left the District to join the football coaching team at Baylor University.

Cedar Ridge finished with an 11-1 record during the 2016 football season. The team earned a the District 13-6A championship.

“I appreciate this opportunity from Mrs. Thomas and Coach Weirich,” Robinson said. “We’ve been working hard and I’m excited to tell our kids. We’re going to do a great job and make Cedar Ridge proud.”
