Round Rock ISD is seeking staff and community input on the 2017-2018 academic calendar and providing the opportunity to submit feedback through a survey between January 20 and February 6.

A team comprised of district and campus administrators, as well as parents, designed the draft calendars in alignment with the most recent calendars.

The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees will review the committee’s recommendation and the community’s feedback before making a decision during the February 16 regular meeting.

The calendar committee considered the following parameters when creating the calendars:

  • The calendar must include 169 instructional days and 16 professional development days.
  • The District’s distinction as a District of Innovation (DOI) allows Round Rock ISD to begin classes earlier than the public school requirement of following the third Monday in August.
  • The calendar option features a full-week break at Thanksgiving and 13 school days in December.
  • Both calendar options feature professional development on the following days: The Monday before school begins,Columbus Day, the final day prior to winter break in December and the day prior to students returning after winter break,President’s Day, and the day following Memorial Day.

The 2017-2018 calendar features a Dec. 20 – Jan. 3 break for students to provide families with additional travel days during the holiday season. It also allows students the opportunity to complete the school year before Memorial Day.
