Eight student athletes at Westwood High School celebrated signing early letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level at a Nov. 9, 2016 ceremony.
Nov. 9 marked the first day of early signing for all sports except football, allowing student-athletes to officially make a commitment to a collegiate sports program. The National Letter of Intent is a commitment between the athlete and the collegiate institution. The National Letter of Intent is issued to prospective student athletes with a scholarship.
“The Westwood community prides ourself in building students in all aspects of life,” Westwood Principal Mario Acosta said. “Our student-athletes are excellent examples of the great success that our students achieve. We are proud of our signees and we are anxious to follow their careers as they bring their passion and talents to colleges across the country.”
Students celebrated signing their letters surrounded by family and friends to mark the occasion.
“Signing my letter of intent made it so real — it’s all happening after all my hard work,” Westwood student-athlete Charese Wyatt said. “I’m excited to be surrounded by high-caliber athletes and the competition level.”
