Five Stony Point High School athletes signed letters of intent on November 9 in front of a crowd of peers and proud parents. Nov. 9 marked the first day of early signing for all sports except football.
The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is a commitment between the athlete and the collegiate institution. The National Letter of Intent is issued to prospective student athletes with a scholarship.
Before handing the microphone over to the coaches, Stony Point Principal Anthony Watson opened the ceremony by sharing with the audience his pride for the athletes and the athletic programs.
“Each of these student athletes have extraordinary talent,” said Tom Collins, Stony Point head baseball coach. “We are fortunate to have them participating in our athletic programs. These athletes are a great inspiration and source of hope and pride to our Stony Point community.”
Coach Collins also said he expects all of these athletes to help lead their teams to great seasons during the current school year and reminds them what an honor it is to sign early.
“I am blessed to be committing in this early period, and it means the world to me that my family, coaches and peers are behind me 100 percent,” Stony Point senior Kolby Kelton said. “I feel like now that I have committed, I have to work extremely hard and also be the example that coach expects us to be.”

Koby Kelton, baseball, Brigham Young University,
Logan Garza, baseball, Our Lady of the Lakes University,
Soteria Banks, women’s basketball, St. Mary’s University,
Taylor Green, women’s basketball, Texas A&M-Commerce and
Genisa Carter, softball, Texas State University.
