Good Afternoon Round Rock ISD community and family,

Each year on Veteran’s Day, we have the gift of honoring men and women who served and sacrificed. Because of their strength and willingness to defend our freedoms, we in Round Rock ISD can educate all children in a safe environment within our schools and community.

Today, I had the pleasure to attend a Veteran’s Day event at Gattis Elementary School. I saw students, staff and community members of all ages and cultures gather with great pride to thank and honor the individuals of our armed services. Similar events recognizing our veterans’ efforts were held throughout our campuses and I am honored to be a part of a district that holds our celebration of veterans so highly.

As Americans, we have opportunities to celebrate freedom each and every day. With freedom comes a responsibility to tell our nation’s story to preserve our legacy for future generations. Let us be mindful that our similarities as Americans are greater than our differences.

The sweat of the homeless person is no different than the sweat of our most affluent citizen. The tears of a parent who cannot provide the next meal for their child are the same as the tears of joy from a parent that is proud of their child’s graduation from high school.

I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all veterans in our Round Rock ISD community, especially those who are parents, guardians, mentors, role models, and educators for our students. Your service shows us the strength of our country and allows our community to educate children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

We are fortunate to live in the greatest nation on Earth. The service and sacrifice of our country’s veterans allow us to pursue our vision of becoming the Destination District for Public Schools. Thank you for your support and for sharing the story of our diverse America with your family.

Respectfully,

Steve Flores, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
