Students across Round Rock ISD are coming together to create works of art for the new Dell Seton Medical Center that will open in 2017.

Students from elementary, middle and high schools are creating pieces of visual art that will be placed into a large art mosaic at the facility. Students were asked to contribute art that related to the theme “picture a healthy community.” They were encouraged to visually showcase their idea of what a healthy community looks like.

“I drew a smoothie because the theme was a healthy community,” said Emma Graber, Deep Wood Elementary School fifth-grade student. “I based it off of how healthy smoothies are. I also put some peace signs in the drawing to show how peaceful the community is.”

For Deep Wood fifth-grade student Gershon Spencer, his piece centered around love and community respect.

“I drew a heart which represents love,” Spencer said. “Everyone should be treated equally and loved the same no matter what they look like.”

Students were given the opportunity to participate by the center who requested art submission from organizations and campuses across the community. It’s an opportunity that educators are excited to provide to students as it gives them the chance to see their work be showcased in a large setting.

“They are so excited to see their work,” said Jennifer Weithman, Deep Wood art teacher. “It feels great to provide our students with the opportunity to showcase their work in our community.”

In addition to the medical center, the students’ submitted art will also be available for viewing on an online gallery. Students will have until November to submit their work with the final unveiling of all the collected art taking place at the opening of the medical center.
