Staff members from Success and McNeil high schools are deputized as Volunteer Deputy Registrars creating on-campus access for students to become registered voters.
“Our students’ dreams, needs and hopes for a better future includes the role they play in the community,” Success Principal Thomasine Stewart said. “Getting them to participate in the voting process encourages them to become informed and active citizens.”
The 14 Round Rock ISD staff members officiated as Travis County Deputy Registrars hold the rights and responsibilities to register eligible citizens to vote. Deputy Registrars verify registrant identification, provide assistance with the application and assure delivery to the elections office within five calendar days.
“With the convenience of on-campus registration, our Deputy Registrars expect to accept and submit completed voter registration applications from approximately 50 percent of all eligible voters enrolled at Success,” Success Assistant Principal Marie Banzon said. “Our appointed District staff can also register community members.”
The voter registration deadline is Oct. 11.
Deputy Registrars serve a two-year term, are sworn in and receive a Volunteer Deputy Registrar Certificate of Appointment. The service term expires on Dec. 31 of each even-numbered year.
