The Round Rock ISD Council of PTAs will host three candidate forums ahead of the Nov. 8, 2106 District Board of Trustees general election.
Three seats will be on the ballot in November, including one contested race between Mason Moses and Tony Pitts for Place 7. Trustees Nikki Gonzales and Charles “Chad” Chadwell are running unopposed and will retain their seats as Place 1 and Place 2.
An invitation to participate in the forum will be extended to each candidate and the forums will give the general public the opportunity to personally meet the candidates. Those in attendance will be able to submit written questions for the candidates to answer. All responses will be timed and each candidate will have the opportunity to make an “opening” and “closing” statement.
The Council of PTAs will host three forums at District facilities. Locations were selected based on geographical proximity. Locations and times are listed below:
- Monday, October 17, Canyon Creek Elementary School, 1:15 – 2:15 p.m.,
- Tuesday, October 18, Walsh Middle School, 7-8 p.m. and
- Wednesday , October 19, Cedar Ridge High School, 7- 8 p.m.
Place 7, currently held by Board Vice President Pauline Law, is an open seat after Law decided to not seek re-election at the end of her term in November. Both Moses and Pitts, who are vying for Place 7, live in Round Rock, served on the District’s Strategic Plan Design Team and currently serve on the District of Innovation Committee.
Moses, an investment associate at TCG Advisors, also serves on the District’s Bond Oversight Committee. Pitt, a licensed attorney and owner of Law Office of Tony A. Pitts, coaches baseball in Round Rock and volunteers with the Round Rock Area Serving Center and the Samaritan Center in Austin. Both candidates are parents of students within Round Rock ISD.
After the District’s random drawing, it was determined that Pitts will appear on the top of the ballot.
