The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a resolution to begin the process for Round Rock ISD to become a District of Innovation (DOI).

The District of Innovation concept is part of Texas House Bill 1842, passed during the 84th Legislative Session in 2014, and allows traditional school districts the opportunity to utilize flexible operation strategies similar to open-enrollment charter schools.

“Round Rock ISD is committed to offering unique opportunities for our students and staff,” Round Rock ISD Board President Paul J. Tisch said. “Initiating the District of Innovation process is a natural step to continue our drive to be a destination district for public schools and we are eager to share this journey with the Round Rock ISD community.”

Round Rock ISD will host a public hearing regarding the DOI process, followed by a secondary vote by the Board to continue the process.

If the Board chooses to continue the process, a 15-member committee, including board-selected members, select principals from elementary, middle and high schools, two teachers of the year, two students and five district administrators, will create a five-year Innovation plan, which will be revisited annually.
