Students from Round Rock and Westwood high schools led the competition at the district’s semi-annual Fit Games.

The Fit Games gathers hundreds of district physical education students at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex to test their physicality through a variety of physical tasks derived from CrossFit techniques.

The Fit Games is the pinnacle of the student’s physical education training each semester, Assistant Athletic Director Susan Nix said

“To see their accomplishment and belief in themselves is so much fun,” Nix said. “The students and coaches put so much work into each class during the semester to prepare for the student’s best performance. Our students suit out and sweat every day.”

The event began after Round Rock ISD Assistant Athletic Director Susan Nix began implementing a functional fitness class in high school PE departments six years ago. The classes focus less on a student’s ability to play organized sports and rather puts natural abilities into play, like running and getting stronger by lifting weights.

“I was really impressed with the dedication and sportsmanship of these students,” Fit Games Coach Meagan Linstruth said. “I love the attitude and behaviors Fit Games is developing for them.”
