Round Rock ISD named Jonathan Smith  as the new principal of Deerpark Middle School.

Smith has served as the Academic Dean of Mendez Middle School in Austin ISD since 2015 and previously worked as the campus’ assistant principal. He has worked in education for 10 years.

“As an instructional leader, I enthusiastically embrace the task of continuing to ensure that students are prepared for success in a global economy,” Smith said. “Our goal is to lead our children to develop into productive citizens as they write the next chapter of their educational lives moving toward high school and post-secondary education. I look forward to further building relationships between our campus and community to enhance the world-class education students receive at Deerpark.”

A graduate of Hampton University and Concordia University, Smith has seven years of experience in the classroom, two of which have been at Mendez and the remaining five at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Virginia.

“Mr. Smith is an innovator and a champion for students,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “He is a relationship builder who connects with students to support high quality teaching and learning. I am confident that he will bring this and more to the Deerpark learning community and we look forward to seeing him thrive.”

Deerpark Middle School, located in Austin, features an enrollment of 976 students and 102 staff members.
