Travis and Williamson counties revealed unofficial election results early Wednesday morning for the five open Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees positions.
All results are unofficial until canvassed. The unofficial results were as follows:
- Place 1, Nikki Gonzales earned 61 percent of the vote over incumbent Claudio Cruz.
- Place 3, Incumbent Diane Cox earned 60 percent of the vote over Bryan Black.
- Place 4, Incumbent Terri Romere won her seat, running unopposed.
- Place 5, Suzi David won the seat, earning 38 percent of the vote, defeating Paul Emerson, 32 percent, and Allen McKee, 29 percent. This seat was vacated by former Board President Catherine Hanna.
- Place 6, Incumbent Paul Tisch earned 62 percent of the vote over Tony Pitts.
The Board will canvass the votes on November 18. New Trustees will be sworn in during the November 20 regular meeting.
“I want to thank all of our candidates for being proactive in their passion for public schools,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “Leaders willing to serve are to be commended for their commitment to support the mission of public education.”
This is the first election cycle for the Board under the newly adopted four-year term system. The term of office for the Place 1 Trustee is two years while the terms for Places 3, 4, 5, and 6 are four years.
Previously, Trustees were elected every three years. As part of the transition to four-year terms, Trustees completed an election drawing on June 19 to determine which positions would be four-year terms and which one would be an initial two-year term, according to Board Policy BBB (Local).
All elected Trustees will serve four-year terms after the November election is finalized.
The seven members of the Board of Trustees are each elected at-large. Trustees meet regularly on the third Thursday of each month at the Round Rock High School Lecture Hall, 300 Lake Creek Drive in Round Rock, as well as additional called and committee meetings as needed.
