The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees approved Elsa England Elementary School Assistant Principal Katrina Bailey as the next principal of Kathy Caraway Elementary School during its regular board meeting Thursday night.
Bailey, who began her career in education administration as an assistant principal at Live Oak Elementary School prior to assisting in the opening of England three years ago, will replace Shelly Hohmann, who is retiring after serving Caraway for 12 years as a principal and Round Rock ISD for 30 years.
Bailey was one of 106 total applicants for the position and one of six to be chose for a community interview earlier this month. Bailey was then recommended for hire by the Round Rock ISD administration.
A graduate of Huston-Tilloston University and Texas State University, Bailey served the Austin and Pflugerville school districts as an elementary school teacher, prior to joining Round Rock ISD as the academic dean at Gattis Elementary School.
Caraway, 11104 Oak View Dr. in Austin, serves about 700 students in the Northwest Austin neighborhood West of Research Boulevard. The school includes about 65 total staff members. Teachers have an average experience level of 9.6 years. The school met the 2013 accountability standard from the state, earning all three possible distinction designations, Reading/ELA, Mathematics and Top 25 percent Student Progress.
