Round Rock ISD Trustees on Monday selected Claudio Cruz to fill the Place 1 seat soon to be vacated by Brian Sellers.

Cruz served as the Vice-Chair of the 2008 Citizen Bond Committee’s Finance Subcommittee. Prior to moving to Round Rock, he volunteered on several committees in Harlingen CISD, including chairing the districtwide Education Improvement Council. He was also a member of the Valley Baptist Missions Education Center school board.

Cruz is a graduate of the University of Texas-Pan American and served in the U.S. Army for 22 years. He is currently employed as a Parent Support Specialist in Austin ISD.

Trustees selected Cruz after a round of interviews with seven candidates Monday. A second round of interviews scheduled for Tuesday, November 12 has been cancelled.

Cruz will take the Board of Trustees’ oath of office Thursday, November 21 at the regularly scheduled Board meeting. Seven citizens serve as members of the Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees. Each is elected at-large to serve staggered four-year terms. The term for the Place 1 seat will expire in November 2014.
