The Round Rock ISD Operations and Construction departments were selected to receive the 2022 Caudill Award, the highest honor an architectural project can receive,  during the annual Exhibit of School Architecture competition, for their work on Redbud Elementary School.

The award, which is sponsored by TASA and TASB, recognizes school architecture projects that exemplify excellence in planning and design of the learning environment. This is the second time in four years that the District has earned the Caudill award, and the third time the District has been a finalist. The other projects the District was recognized for was Laurel Mountain Elementary School’s  Nature to Neighborhood Studio and Deep Wood Elementary School’s Wunderland.

Redbud’s design was inspired by the District’s desire to bring biophilic design into the learning environment. This would allow students to connect to nature through abundant natural light, outside views, organic geometries, materials and color selection. The addition of operable sliding walls in every classroom and flexible furniture allow for individual, group or multi-classroom formats, which enhance opportunities for engagement, discovery, creativity, joy, wonder, and adventure.

Representatives from the Operations and Construction departments will officially receive the award during the TASA Midwinter Conference on Jan. 30.
