In an effort to show Round Rock ISD educators how much they are appreciated during this incredibly challenging time, Western Governors University (WGU) launched a contest for teachers to nominate colleagues by writing about how they are inspirational. They received an overwhelming number of responses showing just how much teachers want to lift each other up. The messages written by the winners’ colleagues were both heartfelt and inspiring.

The top three winners were surprised with goody baskets and the runners up received $25 gift cards.

Kim Bowman, special education teacher, at Old Town Elementary was the first place winner. Bowman was nominated by her principal, Jessica Schock.

“Mrs. Bowman has served as a special education teacher for many years in the District. This year, I have watched (with amazement) at how she reaches her students whether they are virtual or in person. She rarely takes lunch (it’s in her schedule) because she is constantly working on ways to support her students,” wrote Schock “She is passionate about serving students and going above and beyond to meet their needs.”

Jim Johnson, WGU Strategic Partnerships Manager, has been working through the pandemic to find ways to make essential workers, including teachers, feel appreciated.

“Being one of the largest teachers colleges in the nation, WGU knows firsthand the vital work and outstanding dedication that our teaching graduates, and all teachers, display every day, every week, every month and every year,” Johnson said. “We are most grateful for your stalwart service at Round Rock ISD.”

In addition to Ms. Bowman, the following teachers were also recognized by WGU:
