Kathy Cawthron has been named the new principal of C.D. Fulkes Middle School.

Cawthron has served as the principal of Berkman Elementary Arts Integration Academy since 2015 and, during that time, implemented a strong staff driven student support model for behavioral social and emotional needs and led the transition to an Arts Integration Academy. She was also named the Texas Art Educators Association Principal of the Year in 2018 and for the past two consecutive years has been named a finalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Principal award.

Prior to her time at Berkman, she served as the Director of Elementary Instruction and a principal in Bastrop ISD. She has 23 years of experience as a school administrator and a total of 30 years of experience in education.

“Creating a culture of continuous improvement through relationship building and collaborative decision making is at the forefront of my goals as I join the C. D. Fulkes community,” Cawthron said. “I look forward to working with the campus community to build a safe, supportive, and collaborative culture for our staff, students, and families.”

Cawthron earned her Master’s in Education Administration and a Bachelor’s in Home Economics from Baylor University.

“Kathy Cawthron is a passionate educator and administrator who strives to help every child succeed no matter what,” said Superintendent Steve Flores, Ph.D. “Her talents and passion for education have transformed her campus community and the relationships she has built have helped establish a culture of achievement at Berkman. C.D. Fulkes will have a strong leader to continue their journey of ongoing achievement.”
