Recognizing the decades of work that Peggy Mica, Round Rock ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator, has done to better the opportunities for students across the District, Senior Chief of Schools and Innovation Dr. Daniel Presley named Mica the Superintendent’s RRock Star for September 2019.

During her time in education, Mica has vigorously invested in growing students through her work as a classroom teacher and continuously invests in her peers as a mentor to new employees in her department and the District. She is described by many in her department as one of the hardest working people who give 100 percent to everything they do.

“Peggy Mica is always looking for innovative ways to improve the programming we offer students at all levels,” Presley said, “Her service to our students and community show true dedication to our District’s Leadership Values which are Include All, Invest in Growth and Inspire Action.”

In her current position, one of her most enduring accomplishments is the addition of the A+ Federal Credit Union at Round Rock High School, which both employs and serves students during the school year. She has also grown partnerships between businesses and campuses through facilitating the District’s Externship Program, which partners teachers up with relevant industry professionals. During their participation, they shadow professionals and bring back what they learn to the classroom to help enhance the teaching and learning that takes place. The program has grown from six to 75 in the last five years.

Finally, this summer a year’s worth of work came together at Voigt Elementary School as a basketball court was built by middle school students in partnership with Ranger Excavating. Through the partnership, students were able to participate in a week-long camp where they had a chance to experience what it was like to own a construction company, from planning to execution of a project. The final result was a basketball court that students could use for years to come.

RRock Star is a distinction awarded by the Superintendent to a member of the Round Rock ISD team who impacts students across the District.
