Seven Round Rock ISD schools were ranked among the top schools in Central Texas by the 2019 CHILDREN AT RISK Annual School Rankings.

Canyon Creek, Cactus Ranch, Laurel Mountain, Spicewood, and Sommer elementary schools were named five out of the top five elementary schools in the Central Texas area. In the middle school category, Canyon Vista and Walsh were named two of the top five.

To be considered for a top five placement, each campus earned a minimum of A+ rating in 2019. In addition to the top placings, Round Rock ISD elementary and middle schools were collectively the highest rated in the area.

“We take pride in being a Destination District and these kinds of accolades are the result of the hard work of our educators and their passion and dedication in making sure all students have the opportunity to achieve,” Superintendent Steve Flores, Ph.D. said “As public educators, we will continue in our commitment to addressing disparities based on factors our children can’t control and will continue to work tirelessly to close those gaps.”

The rankings are based on achievement, performance and growth indicators and college readiness data. The organization compiled data based on STAAR Reading and Math tests, graduation rates, college entrance exam participation, and scores and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme participation and scores. Student growth and how campuses support economically disadvantaged students are also taken into consideration, according to the organization.
