What is your favorite memory of your time in Round Rock ISD?
Some of the best memories I have from my time in Round Rock ISD were the video projects assigned in my Spanish class. I was in a group with Avary Fielding and Julianna Stock and I loved the creative freedom we had in the task of directing, shooting, and acting in our own telenovelas (Spanish soap operas). The hours we spent planning, filming, and editing are some I will never forget, as they were full of laughter and fun. Spending time with some of my closest friends will be something I will always treasure, and I’m so glad I have a great part of it saved on video.

Who has been your most influential teacher in Round Rock ISD?
My most influential teacher in Round Rock ISD has, without a doubt, been Mrs. Joy Windell, my computer science teacher. From being a freshman who had almost no idea what computer science really was to completing a Princeton University CS course throughout my junior year, I have been guided and encouraged by Mrs. Windell to be ambitious and to follow my own goals. She has inspired me to never give up, even in the face of the stark gender imbalance in STEM that I have been exposed to in high school and will likely, and unfortunately, face in the near future as well. I want to thank Mrs. Windell for always being there for me, whether it was during the college application process, traveling to Fort Worth for a programming competition, or just being someone to rant to, and I hope that I can have a professor in college who is even half as great as her.

I attended Forest Creek Elementary School, Ridgeview Middle School, and Cedar Ridge High School. What is your favorite memory of your time in Round Rock ISD? Having been in Round Rock ISD since I started kindergarten, I have had made so many beautiful memories, but my fondest is when the yearbooks arrived from the publisher in my freshman year yearbook class. It was incredibly rewarding to see a physical version of all of the work we had put in as a staff to produce a quality book. I also cherish this memory because I was in yearbook with my older sister, who was a senior at the time, so we were able to share in our joy and excitement for the yearbook. I am grateful to all of my teachers for the positive impact they have made in my life, but two of the most influential teachers I have had are Mrs. Deanna Jezisek, my third grade teacher, and Mrs. Laura Gibson, my eighth grade science teacher. Mrs. Jezisek motivated me to engage with the world through learning, demonstrated to me how to love and respect each person, and encouraged me to be confident and genuine in who I am. Mrs. Gibson showed me how to enjoy both the struggles and successes of science, in addition to inspiring me to share my faith with others and show them love.

Even though physics was one of my most challenging classes, Mr. Holland’s teaching style made it my favorite.

The most memorable moment during my time in Round Rock ISD was the snow day that we had in Mr. Crawford’s 3rd grade class. It was the first (and only) time that I had seen snow- because…it’s Texas- so I was elated. And, although I returned home with frostbitten hands and a runny nose, I had the time of my life playing with those two inches of snow.

Who has been your most influential teacher in Round Rock ISD?
I would like to say that I had many phenomenal teachers throughout my thirteen years in Round Rock ISD. But, if I had to choose one teacher who has had the biggest impact on my life and my future endeavors, it would have to be my Chemistry and AP Capstone teacher, Dr. LeAnn Rowe. She radiated joy and happiness when discussing topics such as thermodynamics and stoichiometry, allowing me to see the importance of having a deep passion for what you do; and, if it had not been for Dr. Rowe introducing the QuestBridge college process to my older sisters and writing thousands of recommendation letters for me, I would not have been blessed with ample opportunities and incredible college choices.

The first steps to discovering your career are always memorable. For me, it came as the first HOSA meeting, a club I would go on to lead and take care of in hopes of helping others find the same revelations that I did. From there, I carried on my passions over the next four years and discovered so much about being involved in health care as my career, from the way you get to change lives to the overall rewarding aspect of being a doctor in general.

Who has been your most influential teacher in Round Rock ISD?
Pairing together a wise mind and a passion for teaching and placing both qualities into a teacher leads to amazing things. Ms. Ashley Moran has been a prime example of being enthusiastic about what she teaches, pushing her own students to want to learn, while also making what she teaches about so much more than just material to learn to pass a test. Having Ms. Moran as my teacher was so influential in pushing me to work my hardest and enjoy what I learn for the last 3 years, and I am so grateful to have had her impact me so much.
