The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees received updates on state accountability results, dual language programs, and construction projects throughout the District at its August 17 regular Board Meeting.

State Accountability Results

The Board of Trustees reviewed the District’s 2017 final accountability results and were presented with the findings that campuses and the District received an overall rating of Met Standard. The District was also awarded 120 distinctions. The 20 elementary campuses that earned distinctions are:

Each campus and the District were rated on four Indexes which include student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary readiness.

Dual Language Programs

Showcasing the goals, redesign and performance of the District’s Dual Language program, discussions focused on the District’s transition from the 50:50 model, which featured curriculum taught 50% of the time in English and 50% in Spanish for grade kindergarten through fifth grade, to the 90:10 model, which features a larger percentage of curriculum taught in Spanish for the first few years until eventually transitioning into an even split by fourth grade. Also presented was the performance levels of Dual Language students on the first administration of the math and reading STAAR test. A number of campuses saw a higher performance percentage of students in the Dual Language program.

Construction Report

Updates to construction projects across the District were presented. Part D, the final portion of the Westwood High School Phase Three renovation project, is 90% completed and the installation of furniture and equipment into renovated spaces began in mid-August. Construction of interior restrooms, PE locker rooms and new bleachers have been completed as part of McNeil High School Phase One and the agricultural science classrooms and barn are now occupied by teachers. Construction has also completed the permanent installation of an air conditioning system. The next phase of construction included the installation of construction fencing at the front of the campus and preparing a side entry for students and staff. Traffic and the parking adjustments are being made by campus and District administration.

The Cedar Ridge High School Auditorium is in the final stages of completion and construction on the campus’ locker room has begun.

Construction of the Stony Point High School Auditorium continues as the installation of the underground utilities commences and the building pad installation is completed.  The anticipated completion date for the facility is Fall 2018.

Additional projects discussed include the Canyon Vista Middle School  window and roof repairs, library renovations at  Laurel Mountain, Wells Branch and Pond Springs elementary schools, a gym expansion at Voigt Elementary School, gym additions at Deerpark and Hopewell middle schools and HVAC and roof replacement at Bluebonnet and Old Town elementary schools.
