Canyon Vista Middle School student Rohan Polavaram put his skills to the test and led the competition at the Coding4TX Hackathon in celebration of Computer Science Week.

Coding4TX is a coding and computer science education program serving Texas teachers and students, operated by national non-profit Code/Interactive, according to the organization. Rohan spent a full day in December competing in the Hackathon where he joined a team of fellow students to solve a problem with technology.

“Hackathons are fun and it’s a great way to learn new things,” Rohan said. “It also connects you with people who are also interested in the same things you’re interested in and you get to do what you want the entire day.”

Rohan and his team developed an app that organizes delivery of food and supplies to rural communities through drones.

“We are so proud of Rohan and his dedication to computer programming,” Canyon Vista Principal Nicole Hagerty said. “It takes great skill to work collaboratively, use critical thinking skills and build something from scratch to succeed.”
