Round Rock ISD completed 24 bond projects over the summer, now impacting thousands of students across the District.

The projects, totaling $12 million, updated 23 campus facilities and created new learning spaces at Spicewood Elementary School and Stony Point High School.

A new classroom modular building at Spicewood added 14 new classrooms and community bathrooms that will be connected to the main school building through a canopy-covered walkway. The project is designed to replace six portables and was the single biggest project during the summer, said Director of Construction Tim Strucely.

“Our students, parents and teachers all love the new, secure learning environment,”said Jiae Kim, Spicewood principal. “Students and teachers especially love the spacious classrooms that allow for more collaborative learning opportunities without constraints. Bathrooms and water fountains in the modular building are definitely the perks that everyone is grateful for.”

The second phase of the Stony Point agriculture science facility doubled the animal pen spaces and added two classrooms. A new covered arena was also constructed for students to practice showing and exercising animals.

The following projects were completed:

  • Anderson Mill, Caldwell Heights and Robertson elementary schools received new flooring.
  • Playground equipment was replaced at Deep Wood and Forest North elementary schools.
  • Great Oaks, Gattis, and Forest North elementary schools received updated alarm systems.
  • The PA, clock and bell systems at Caraway and Fern Bluff elementary schools and Canyon Vista Middle School were replaced.
  • Double File Trail, Deep Wood, and Robertson elementary schools and Deerpark Middle school received a partial or full roof replacement.
  • The air conditioning systems were replaced and the gym was upgraded at Voigt Elementary School.
  • The running track at Cedar Valley Middle School was replaced.
  • Phase 2 of the Stony Point High School agriculture science facility was constructed.
  • Portable restrooms and carpet district-wide.
  • Cedar Valley, Grisham and Walsh middle schools received a dance portable.
  • Portable classroom flooring at Berkman, Cactus Ranch, Forest North, Live Oak and Sommer elementary schools were replaced.
  • Portable roofing was replaced at Bluebonnet, Fern Bluff, Pond Springs, Robertson and Voigt elementary schools and Ridgeview Middle School.

A large part of the bond projects completed over the summer centered on updating essential systems to ensure students can learn both safely and comfortably, Strucely said.

“We replaced a lot of key systems in older schools to bring them up to date,” Struceley said. “We have about 30 projects slated for next summer on the same bond so we hope to continue our work and keep up the pace.”
