The Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT) has named Gattis Elementary School Talented and Gifted teacher Daniel Brillhart as the recipient of its 2016 TAGT State Educator of the Gifted Award.

The honor is presented annually to an active teacher who, through the delivery of exemplary curriculum and instruction, meets the intellectual, social and emotional needs of gifted students, according to TAGT. Brillhart will receive a $1,000 cash award, sponsored by H-E-B, in recognition of the honor.

“Mr. Brillhart has been an asset to Round Rock ISD and is well deserving of being a recipient of the TAGT Educator of the Gifted Award,” said Michelle Swain, director of gifted and advanced academics. “He is a caring, dedicated professional who models the habits of lifelong learning to his students and colleagues. We are proud to have him serve our students and District.”

Brillhart has been an educator for 27 years, 13 of which have been in Round Rock ISD. He has taught TAG courses for 10 years.

“I feel a little flabbergasted after winning, but it’s starting to sink in,” Brillhart said. “I love TAG and it’s definitely my niche. We have a strong TAG community in Round Rock, not just with parents, but with teachers and that has been a blessing.”

Brillhart will be formally recognized and receive the award Dec. 1 at the TAGT annual conference in Dallas.
