“What I wanted them to know is that I strive to do what is best for the kids everyday,” Mussey said. “I try to lead with a servant’s heart and be a servant leader.

Cactus Ranch Elementary Assistant Principal Reba Mussey has been selected as the Region 13 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).

Mussey was surprised with the recognition and said it was an honor to be selected. She has been involved with TEPSA for almost nine years, the same period of time she has served as an administrator at Round Rock ISD.

This is the second year in a row that an assistant principal from Round Rock ISD has been selected for the prestigious recognition.

“I’m very honored to be selected,” Mussey said. “I know there are many great educators in this region, let alone Round Rock ISD. It’s a great honor to be able to represent Round Rock ISD and Region 13.”

The announcement was announced during Cactus Ranch’s Professional Development session last month. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores, Chief of Schools and Innovation Dr. Daniel Presley and Executive Director of Elementary Education Carla Amacher unexpectedly stopped by to share the news of her achievement.

“Reba Mussey is a tremendous educational leader and serves as an excellent representative of the caliber of leadership present at Round Rock ISD,” Dr. Flores said.“ We are proud of her selection and are honored to have a member of our team selected for the second consecutive year as the Region 13 TEPSA Assistant Principal of the Year.”

Mussey submitted her application to TEPSA earlier this year with the full support of her principal Vicki Crain. Mussey believes that her essays, along with the experience she has been able to gain at Round Rock ISD, are what helped her selection.

“What I wanted them to know is that I strive to do what is best for the kids everyday,” Mussey said. “I try to lead with a servant’s heart and be a servant leader. I believe my responses, the opportunities Round Rock ISD has given me to grow as a leader and my campus experience helped distinguish me a bit.”

Mussey will be recognized during the annual TEPSA conference this June. The conference will take place in Austin and the awards ceremony will take place on June 15.

“Reba Mussey is an accomplished assistant principal with a wealth of knowledge and a vast skill set for all that being a campus administrator requires,” Crain said. “She provides staff with meaningful affirmations and is quick to give teachers recognition. The Cactus Ranch staff view her as supportive and caring leader and she does all of this while maintaining high expectations for staff and students.”
