The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees named interim principal Courtney Acosta as the new principal at McNeil High School Tuesday night during a called meeting.

Acosta had been serving as the interim principal at McNeil since August when the previous principal, John Yonker, left to serve as the district’s executive director for educational support. Prior to that, she had served in the roles of associate and assistant principal at the school for five years.

“I am honored to continue serving the students, families and staff of McNeil High School,” Acosta said. “This is a special school with great traditions of success in academics, fine arts and athletics. Our goal as a team of effective educators is to continue that tradition and to offer opportunities for every student who walks into our campus.”

A graduate of Texas A&M University and Lamar University, Acosta served as a science teacher and instructional specialist before entering campus administration.

“McNeil High School is entering critical years as the campus builds on its successes this summer when it earned all six distinction designations from TEA,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “Courtney Acosta is part of a team that has increased student achievement. She possesses a clear vision for McNeil, and brings a valuable reputation for collaboration that will engage stakeholders at all levels of the community.”

In earning all six of its eligible distinction designations, McNeil earned a spot in the top five percent of Texas schools this past summer. The school, located in North Austin, features an enrollment of over 2,500 students and 230 staff members.
